Former Flying Squad Unit (FFU) commander Nixon Agasiirwe was once again returned to court on Wednesday, only for his case to be further adjourned to November 19, 2025, after the State failed to produce the committal papers required to send the matter to the High Court for trial.
During the short court session, the State prosecution requested additional time, explaining that the committal documents were not yet ready. The presiding magistrate accepted the request and extended Agasiirwe’s remand until the next hearing date.
However, the defence expressed dissatisfaction with the repeated delays, accusing the prosecution of slowing down the process.
They appealed to court to ensure an expeditious trial, arguing that Agasiirwe has now spent more than 100 days on remand without any tangible progress in his case.
In response, the State assured court that all necessary paperwork would be ready by the next session, promising that Agasiirwe and his co-accused would finally be committed to the High Court.
Agasiirwe is jointly charged with Abdul Noor Semujju in connection with the murder of former Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, Joan Kagezi, who was shot dead in March 2015 in Kiwatule, Kampala.
The two are accused of participating in the planning and execution of the murder a case that continues to attract wide public attention due to Kagezi’s role in prosecuting high-profile terrorism cases at the time of her death.
